Celebrating International Day of People with Disability at the Y

At YMCA Inclusion Services, we are proud to join the global celebration of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), observed annually on December 3rd. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of creating inclusive communities and advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.

The theme for IDPwD 2021, “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world,” resonates deeply with our mission. This year, we had the privilege of participating in an Australia-wide world record event in partnership with Victoria Police. Our contribution, crafting over 350 meters of paper chains, symbolizes our commitment to fostering inclusivity and unity within our community.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, YMCA Inclusion Services remained steadfast in our dedication to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. Throughout the past year, we have organized over 7,300 sessions and events, providing over 35,796 hours of invaluable support. Our diverse range of programs, totaling 19, caters to the unique needs and preferences of our participants, ensuring that everyone feels valued and included.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is witnessing the positive impact it has on the lives of those we serve. From providing essential day center services during lockdowns to facilitating meaningful connections and friendships, our programs have truly made a difference. As one grateful parent shared, our services have enabled their child to experience genuine friendship and a sense of belonging for the first time.

We are deeply touched by the heartfelt feedback we receive from participants and their families, reaffirming the significance of our efforts. Whether it’s empowering individuals to overcome challenges, fostering a sense of community, or promoting self-worth and confidence, every success story inspires us to continue our mission with passion and dedication.

As we reflect on our achievements and look towards the future, we remain committed to creating a more inclusive and accessible world for individuals with disabilities. Join us in commemorating International Day for Disability by celebrating diversity, advocating for equality, and embracing the power of inclusion.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for your unwavering support.
